The Great Bear Festival

So what is “THE GREAT BEAR FESTIVAL?” As you are reading this, we are in the final stages a novelty about to happen in Depot Park August 5, in Kalispell, from 3 – 10 pm, a group of your local Rotarians and a few of us that believes Kalispell is in the “HEART” (change the word heart to a red large icon heart) of the Flathead Valley, and have been questioning why we are not creating more “Funfests” here.

So, this all began for me back in January, when my husband after maybe 8 years in Rotary asks me if I would like to go to Rotary tomorrow morning, he is a member of “The Day Break Rotary”, and I said, “Okay.” For part of their program that morning, they had a gentleman from “The Rotary Club of Kalispell,” to share an “idea” and asking for anyone who is interested in “Making Kalispell Greater” and helping with putting together a Beer and Wine festival…that perked my ears, because usually, you “Beer Peeps” out there, think wine does not exist. On a recent trip to Big Sky, we stopped in at a local Brewery and Taphouse, that also has a full liquor license, our server approached us for our libations…as I was approached, I asked for his wine list, his comment back to me, “ We are a Brewhouse, we specialize in Beer,” so then I share, “Okay, so I do see wine bottles in your bar area.” He takes the rest of our order, and then he comes back with a bottle of wine, and says, “his is not cold, however I could place this in our “Chiller”, and be ready in 10 minutes.”

Really, what Brewery has a chiller…this guy was just being plain “snobbish” or not well trained for this establishment, and there is a term out there called “Wine Snobs”, but I think the “Craft Brew” indulgers, maybe taking over this crown…any wine bars I have been to, depending on the region, may have a full liquor license but always have beer as well.

So, I get it, in some of the current Brewery applications wine is not an option to include in Montana, but have you even thought of questioning this…it is time for Montana to figure out some new creative ways to Honor those Montanans that have put their “blood, Sweat, and Tears” into their current investment, while we add growth for our communities going forward.
