Mother’s Day Heating and Cooling Comfort

Mother’s Day is the secondĀ most popular holiday for gift giving after Christmas, anĀ estimated $20 billion industry. This day is also the largest call volume of the year.

It makes me wonder: If President Woodrow Wilson had not proclaimed this a national holiday back in 1914, where would all this money be spent instead? Maybe more homes would be updated with a new furnace or air conditioner BEFORE the homeownersĀ had problems and were forced to replace their equipment. Interesting enough, we have not had one call this week to say, ā€œI would love to give my mom a new furnace for Mother’s Day. Can you wrap it up with a nice pretty bow and deliver it by Sunday?ā€ And this got me thinking, again, how silly for us, could it be we have just not been very good re-minding our customers of all the ā€œgiftā€ ideas we have available for your mother?

I have taken my fair share of marketing seminars, but never have I seen a display ad tying heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical, and especially drain cleaning to gift giving for Mother’s Day. Think about it, ā€œMom, we love you so much, and we know you have been struggling with that slow flow-ing drain in the kitchen for a long time, so we have arranged to have Central here on Monday to take care of that for you,Ā Happy Mother’s Day!ā€

I am thinking this would be a close second on ā€œthe listā€ to the time my husband gave me a tread mill for Mother’s Day!

Most of the items we install are located in a place in your home that typically is not frequented often or where it would be easy to view your pretty new furnace or water heater. It may sound a bit over the top to use ā€œprettyā€ with these items; however, Lennox for one, has taken great strides in designing their systems today to have the look of a high-end appliance. And a tankless water heater definitely has a much sleeker overall appearance than any ordinary water heater.

But there is one item that may warrant a bow ā€” a Ductless Mini-Split System. This is the perfect system for any room you cannot get your regular heating and cooling to, or maybe you have a home with in-floor heat or electric baseboards, and would like to add cooling.

We installed a Mini-Split in our cabin that only has electric baseboard heat and a wood stove. I love this item. Many hotels, use similar units, usually mounted on a wall that will provide heating or cooling for your room. This same concept is now very popular for the home.

Simply by the push of the button on the remote you can have either heat or cooling. These units are also very quiet and nice looking. The comfort that our Mini-Split has provided on those hot summer days at our cabin is wonderful. It basi-cally comes in two very manageable boxes, smaller than a high-chair box.

As I was reading the news this morning, the Forest Service is predicting a hot, dry summer and ramping up to be prepared for fires. If you are someone that relies on opening your windows at night for the cool evening breeze to cool your home down in the summer, this summer may be a challenge, when our air quality is affected by the smoke from these ex-pected fires as we have had in the past. Let’s hope we do not revisit the smoke we had from the 2003 Glacier Park fire, or a bit more recent but not so severe were the Bob Marshall and Prisoner Lake fires in late summer 2012.

As we take time to honor our mothers this Sunday, and enjoy having friends and family close, keep in mind how very fortunate we are to live in this beautiful Valley we call home.

Happy Motherā€™s Day, and as always, your Comfort is our Central concern. Call us at 756-6656, for all your heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical and drain cleaning needs!
